History

The founding of the Sonesta Apart Hotel, located on Luz Street, in the Vitacura district of Santiago, marked the beginning of a group of investors that later led to the creation of Inversiones Hoteleras Holding SPA (IHH), a Company that is controlled today by Whitesands SA.

It was in the nineties when he opted for the service industry. Today, the dream of that hotel business is shared among more than 80 shareholders that make up IHH.

After the 103 room Sonesta tower, in the late 1990s, the founding shareholders brought the Intercontinental brand of the IHG chain to Chile. Together with the beginning of the construction of a new Tower, on Av. Vitacura that would contain 189 rooms, 2,000 m2 of meeting rooms and 2 restaurants. Which opened to the public in 2001.

Later in 2008, the group expanded towards Av. Isidora Goyenechea, when inaugurating the Isidora Tower. A luxury enclosure with 80 more rooms.

The consolidation of the Group came with the purchase of the hotels: Crowne Plaza -in the center of Santiago- and The Ritz Carlton -in Las Condes- through a public investment fund, “Fondo de Inversión Inversiones Hoteleras” (FIIH) with contributions from the main shareholders and bank financing. The growth continued, when in June 2016 IHH acquired the Sheraton Santiago Hotel -in Providencia- through a new capital increase.

In 2023 and due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Company underwent a reorganization process, liquidating the Investment Fund, selling the Sheraton hotel and refinancing its liabilities. For its part, the existing contract with the IHG chain through which the Crowne Plaza hotel was operated came to an end and the decision was made to sign a new contract with the Marriott International chain to operate the building at Av Alameda 136 under the brand Le Meridien.
